Neurodivergence, Birth & Trauma: Understanding Needs, Transforming Care
A neurodivergence informed training session for perinatal professionals.
These workshops will be live on Zoom on:
Tuesday 19th January 2027 (time TBC)
Tuesday 23rd March 2027 (time TBC)
How can maternity care better support autistic people and people with ADHD through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period?
Neurodivergence does not in itself mean someone will experience birth trauma. But what happens when a person's needs meet a maternity system that may not be designed around those needs?
Join Make Birth Better for a focused 2-hour webinar exploring neurodivergence through a trauma-informed lens.
We'll consider how four interconnected areas can shape experiences of maternity care:
Sensory processing – the impact of noise, lighting, touch and busy environments.
Communication – supporting understanding, consent and shared decision-making.
Executive functioning – navigating uncertainty, information, transitions and unexpected changes.
Mental health – recognising individual needs and promoting psychological safety.
Together, we'll reflect on how maternity professionals can adapt their practice, reduce avoidable distress and provide care that better supports neurodivergent people. We will give you four easy things to change in your practice today.
This is an opportunity to move beyond assumptions, deepen understanding and consider practical changes that can make a meaningful difference.
Because trauma-informed care starts with understanding the person, their needs and the environment in which care takes place.
The Team
“Please can I say a huge thank you for the 3 days training you have provided to the team. Your attention to detail is exemplary – we have all felt engaged, informed and educated. I am beyond impressed that whilst the training has been delivered virtually you have connected with us regularly through the chat and break-out rooms. I don’t think I have ever felt as heard in a virtual setting, we have so much to take away, reflect on and implement into our service.”
